World Environment Day 2022: When Was The First Occasion Marked By This Festivity?

The 5th of June is recognised as World Environment Day, an annual event held to inspire everyone to take environmental protection into their own hands. This event is being organised primarily by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), which will be the focus of the celebration. The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) organises a number of events to increase awareness about the ways in which we should pay greater attention to the environment and the reasons why we should do so. These activities involve individual involvement as well as community meetings.

The ever-increasing pollution and resource extraction are two of the most significant factors contributing to the degeneration of the natural world. The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has designated June 5 as World Environment Day in order to raise awareness about this issue among people all over the world.

The Past As Well As Its Importance

During the Stockholm Conference in 1972, the United Nations General Assembly designated June 5 as World Environment Day. It was the first international summit to make concerns about the environment a primary topic of discussion. The United Nations Environment Program was also created that year. In 1973, the inaugural World Environment Day celebration took place all around the world. There are currently 193 member nations of the UNEP, and on this day they celebrate by organising a variety of different programmes. The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is commemorating its half-century anniversary this year.

The Topic and the Host

Each year, a new nation serves as the host for the World Environment Day celebration. Sweden will serve as the host nation for this particular year. This nation will play host to all of the formal gatherings and celebrations. The "Only One Earth" theme will be used to organise the festivities surrounding this campaign.
