PM's New Year gift: Schemes for poor, farmers, traders, pregnant women and senior citizens

In perhaps the most awaited nation's address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday announced a string of schemes for the public in the form of interest rate cuts, financial aid and credit limits. The primary list of beneficiaries in PM Modi's New Year gift kitty includes farmers, traders, pregnant women and senior citizens. 
PM Modi on Saturday addressed the nation as the day marked the end of demonstration window he requested in his previous address on November 8 when he announced the ban on the 86 per cent of Indian currency in the form of old notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000.

Here is the list of sops and schemes announced by PM Narendra Modi on December 31: 
1. Housing loan for lower and middle-income groups: 
#On the eve of the new year, Government is bringing some new programmes for the people: PM
#Loans of up to 9 lakh rupees taken in 2017 will receive interest subvention of 4 per cent: PM
#Loans of up to 12 lakh rupees taken in 2017 will receive interest subvention of 3 per cent: PM
#The number of houses being built for the poor, under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana in rural areas, is being increased by 33 per cent: PM
#Loans of up to 2 lakh rupees taken in 2017 for new housing, or extension of housing in rural areas will receive an interest subvention of 3 per cent: PM
2. RuPay Credit Card for farmers: 
#3 crore farmers who have Kisan Credit Cards, will be given RuPay debit cards within three months: PM
3. NABARD loans: 
#Govt to bear interest worth 60 days on farmers loans drawn from district cooperative central bank and primary society: PM
#NABARD created a fund of Rs 21000 crore last month, now Govt is adding Rs 20,000 crore more to this: PM
#The loss that NABARD suffered by giving loans to Coop banks and societies at low-interest rate shall be borne by GoI: PM
4. Bank credit limit:
#Banks have been asked to raise cash credit limit to small business to 25% from 20%: PM Modi
#Banks have also been asked to increase working capital loans from 20% of turnover to 30% for enterprises that transact digitally: PM Modi
5. Sops for senior citizens: 
#8% interest on all FDs up to 7.5 lakhs for 10 years for senior citizens, interest can be availed monthly: PM
6. Financial aid for pregnant women: 
#Pregnant women to get financial aid of Rs 6000 in bank accounts for hospital registration, immunisation and delivery: PM Modi

PM Narendra Modi launched BHIM app to gain cheap publicity, says BSP supremo Mayawati

BSP supremo Mayawati on Saturday raised doubts over BHIM (Bharat Interface for Money) app.Reportedly, Mayawati said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched the app to garner cheap publicity.
Earlier on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated at the Digi Dhan Mela in Delhi's Talkatora stadium, where he launched a mobile app to make digital payments easier.
Launching the BHIM e-wallet app, PM Modi said that it will soon only need thumbprint. PM Modi also distributed prizes to those who have made contributions to promote digital payments in the country.

Scientists decode our inability to maintain eye-to-eye contact while talking

Have you ever thought why it is difficult to maintain eye-to-eye contact when you talk to someone? Well scientists have decoded human beings’ inability to hold someone’s gaze while talking.
According to scientists, maintaining eye contact while thinking of words is too demanding a task for the brain. This may be an answer to why we sometimes find it difficult to maintain eye contact while talking. 
Sometimes, when you break an eye contact with the other person, it indicates that you are bored with the conversation. But, researchers have found that it may be because we try to keep our brains from overloading.
Experiments to learn more about how the phenomenon works were carried out by the researchers from the Kyoto University in Japan.

We aren't getting engaged, says Virat Kohli on reports of engagement with Anushka Sharma

Ace cricketer Virat Kohli has refuted the reports of his engagement with Anushka Sharma, saying they aren't getting engaged yet.
It was reported that the couple will be exchanging the rings on January 1 in Uttarakhand.
The rumors began after Virat and Anushka were spotted holidaying in the state. Besides, Uttarakhand CM Harish Rawat too had welcomed the couple there with a tweet on micro-blogging site Twitter. As per the media reports while the respective parents of the couple were flying down to Uttarakhand for the ceremony, their engagement was to be attended by the bigwigs of the industry.

New device to send real kisses to your long distance loved ones over smartphone

Technology is advancing day by day and now we literally have a technology to send a kiss to someone in the long distance over the internet. A new smartphone gadget developed by researchers lets you send a physical smooch to somebody’s lover sitting somewhere else in any part of the world through the internet.   
The device is called ‘Kissenger’ works with pressure sensor and actuators.
It functions with a very simple mechanism- it records the user’s kiss and transmits the same to an identical receiving device, which then recreates the kiss for the person on the other end through a mobile application which also features the function of video calling.
Emma Yann Zhang who worked on the prototype as PhD student at City University London said, “Kissing is the most direct and universal expression of intimacy and affection.”  

Rahul Gandhi poses five questions to PM Narendra Modi after 50 days of demonetisation

After 50 days of demonetisation, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Friday came up with a list of five questions for PM Narendra Modi. Taking it to Twitter, Rahul Gandhi said, "Modiji 50 days of demonetisation are over, now answer these five questions.
Below are the five question Rahul Gandhi posted:
1. Amount of black-money recovered after November 8, 2016?
2. Economic loss to the nation and number of jobs lost?
3. How many people died due to demonetisation, has the compensation been paid?
4. Who all did PM consult on demonetisation? Why were experts, economists, RBI not consulted?
5. Who all deposited more than 25 lakhs in bank accounts, in six months preceding 8th November 2016?
Rahul Gandhi has been attacking the Narendra Modi government over demonetisation. PM Modi too was recently seen backfiring at Rahul at a rally in Varanasi.

PMLA case: Enforcement Directorate files case against televangelist Zakir Naik

The Enforcement Directorate filed a money laundering case against controversial televangelist Zakir Naik on Friday following an earlier FIR registered by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
The Islamic preacher has been out of the country since reports emerged that his sermons influenced a few Bangladeshi attackers, who targeted an eatery in Dhaka on July 1.
Bangladesh has banned Naik’s Peace TV, saying it incited the attack on a Dhaka cafe in which 22 people were killed.
Naik's organisation Islamic Research Foundation (IRF) is also being investigated by the Mumbai Police over alleged foreign funding.

Trinamool Congress accuses BJP-RSS of spreading canard on social media

With opposition attacking the ruling TMC on the issue of Dhulagarh riots, the TMC on Friday accused the BJP-RSS of spreading canard on social media to give “a local incident communal twist”.
“All the old social media tricks and habits of the BJP-RSS combo. Amplify a local issue. Give it a communal twist. Spread hate even after arrests,” TMC national spokesperson Derek O’Brien said in a statement.
O’Brien said Bengal has rejected “communal bigots in historic elections few months back”.
“Fake photos. Bogus hashtags. Sick mindsets. Millions of dollars pumped into SM... BJP-RSS talk about Digital India but promote Divisive India,” he said.

Body in burned car raises fears for missing Greek ambassador in Rio

The site of burned-out car in Rio state with a body inside has sparked fears among citizens that it might be that of the Greek ambassador to Brazil, who was missing since Monday.
Rio police were examining the corpse and scene but could not say whether it was that of the envoy, 59-year-old Kyriakos Amiridis.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal dares centre to probe appointments but investigate Sahara diaries too

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday dared the Centre to get all the appointments made by his government probed after the CBI filed an FIR into the appointment of city Health Minister Satyendar Jain’s OSD.
Asserting that he was not afraid of any probe, the AAP chief also wondered whether the Centre would accept a Delhi government-appointed committee to look into the Sahara Birla papers.
Kejriwal alleged that the CBI has filed “seven FIRs” against Jain and “two” against Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, but did not elaborate.

Tata Sons asks Mistry to return all documents with confidential information

After accusing ousted group chairman Cyrus Mistry of breaching confidentiality rules, Tata Sons on Thursday asked the former chairman to return all classified papers and sign an undertaking within 48 hours that he would not disclose such information in future.
In a second legal notice in three days, Tata Sons alleged that Mistry had "wrongfully and dishonestly" taken confidential information out of the company premises without consent.
It asked him to "immediately return to the company all confidential information" in his possession and "not retain copies" of the same.
Asking him to cease from use or disclosure of confidential information, the holding company of the USD 103-billion salt-to-software group also asked Mistry to sign an undertaking within 48 hours that he "shall preserve the confidentiality of all the confidential information and not use or disclose" to anyone, including affiliates, relatives and family members.
On Tuesday, it had sent a legal notice accusing Mistry of breaching confidentiality rules by attaching dozens of confidential and sensitive company documents with the petition filed by his family investment firms before the National Company Law Tribunal against his removal.
It had threatened to take legal action against him, terming his action as "reckless failure" in discharging of "fiduciary, legal and contractual duties". 
In today's notice served through its law firm, Tata Sons said Mistry was privy to confidential and commercially sensitive information and documents in his capacity as executive chairman and director of the company and its operating firms.
